Week Ahead: Gatto Funeral, Obamajam, Thanksgiving

Five things to start off your week in Echo Park and Silver Lake.

Here are five things to start off you week in Echo Park and Silver Lake:

  1. Family, friends and community members will gather in Los Feliz Monday at a funeral mass for Joseph Gatto. According to a release from Mike Gatto's office, the funeral will be held at Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 2060 North Vermont Avenue in Los Feliz beginning at 10 a.m. Find out more details here
  2. President Barack Obama will visit Glendale on Tuesday and traffic delays are expected in the area. Obama will give a speech at Dreamworks Animation. At 10:30 a.m., streets will begin closing in Glendale, in an area bounded generally by San Fernando Road to the northeast, Grandview Avenue to the northwest, and Riverside Drive and the Los Angeles River to the south.
  3. In case you didn't know, Thursday is Thanksgiving. If you’re driving over the holiday, remember to buckle up and don’t drink alcohol. The California Highway Patrol will engage in a Maximum Enforcement Period from 6 p.m. Wednesday through midnight Sunday. Last year, there were 44 people killed in collisions during the Thanksgiving holiday in California.
  4. Black Friday is traditionally the day after Thanksgiving, but many retailers are starting early, before the turkey is even put away. Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer, is kicking off its Black Friday sales at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
