When I first met John Choi at Echo park, I asked him questions about the city budget. He was notRead More prepared and could not answer. I have endorsed Mitch and believe he will be a terrific council member of the people.

Actually, the California gas tax situation is far, far, far worse than even you seem to realize. YouRead More stopped your tally of per-gallon increases at the 18¢ PER GALLON mark. In fact, it was doubled not too many years ago, now is about 36¢ per gallon! That doubling was done very quietly, I never heard any peep about it, never saw any reporting on it, but you can see that now as the amount posted on the gas pump next time you fill up (and you can confirm it on the Internet). I first noticed it 2-3 years ago, but it could have happened a couple years before that. Secondly, you missed mentioning that California also applies the sales tax to gasoline! California double taxes gasoline! I don't know of any other state that does that, double taxing gasoline. The others do one or the other. And with sales tax, the higher the price goes, the more tax you pay, so you can bet the government is happy to see gas prices soar so it finds itself swimming in money. The state is not going to be pushing for lower gas prices! This heavy taxation California puts on gas is the entire reason we pay anything at all more than other states, even the state with the lowest price, which often is New Jersey. In New Jersey, they pay about 18¢ per gallon state tax, and no sales tax. In California, on every gallon we are paying an additional 18¢, plus sales tax, which at say $3.75 per gallon comes to anther 34¢ per gallon, for a total of 52¢ per gallon more tax in California than New Jersey tax -- and is almost exactly the difference in our price over that of New Jersey. So, next time you hear someone justify our higher price by saying we require cleaner burning gasoline, just tell them they have no idea what they are talking about, are full of sh-- or worse, are probably just knowingly lying so that you don't realize what is really going on. In fact, I believe New Jersey requires the same fuel blend that California does, yet it often is the lowest priced gas in the country. And now California is going to INCREASE our state tax on gas come July 1! I note, the tally of all taxes on gasoline by any state is nom more than than in the 18¢ per gallon range, whether a per galloon tax or a sales tax. But not in California, the only one to go wildly over that amount.
