Workers, Organizers to Protest Proposed Chinatown Walmart
The proposed location would be just over a mile away from downtown Echo Park.
Labor organizers and workers will gather this afternoon protest a proposed 33,000 square-foot Walmart grocery store proposed to be built in Chinatown at the corner of Cesar Chavez and Grand Avenues, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The group, Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy, accuses the store of denying workers adequate wages and benefits. Organizers also say Walmart is circumventing a city ordinance prohibiting the expansion of its big-box stores by opening smaller grocery stores.
