Court Announces Discounts for Overdue Parking TIckets

The Los Angeles Superior Court's "half-off" program will run from Jan. 1, 2012, to June 30, 2012, and affect an estimated 1 million delinquent tickets in L.A. County.

In an effort to raise revenues, Los Angeles Superior Court will offer a 50 percent discount to people who pay outstanding traffic tickets due on or before Jan. 1, 2009.

The program runs from Jan. 1, 2012, to June 30, 2012.

According to the L.A. Daily News, the program willl especially benefit those who can't renew their drivers licenses without paying the fines.

The program will also help local courts deal with backlogs.

Officials don't know how much money will be collected, but a similar program started in 2004 raised $1.3 billion, according to one estimate.

Right now, the courts have a one in five success rate in collecting unpaid tickets once they hit a collection agency.
