Suspect in Early Morning Shooting Arrested
Rampart Station police officers searched for men suspected of shooting at gang unit officers shortly after midnight.
Police arrested a suspect accused of firing at Rampart gang unit officers early Sunday morning after setting up a command post at Beverly Boulevard and Rosemont Avenue and combing an area between Beverly and West 3rd Streets.
A call of shots fired came into the Rampart station shortly after midnight, when two officers in the Rampart gang unit were driving near South Park View Avenue when they encountered a pair of men on foot, one of whom shouted the name of a local gang and then fired "two to three rounds" at the officers, hitting no one, said Sgt. Michael Maibe of the Rampart Station. After a foot pursuit and search of the perimeter, one of the suspects was arrested around 6 a.m., while the other one got away, Maibe said.
