Robber Shoots Man in Cypress Park, Police Say

The victim is reported to be in "guarded" condition.

A robber shot a man shot in the chest  early Sunday morning, according to police.

A paramedic found the victim, believed to be 18-20 years old, at or near Elm and Isabel streets about 12:21 a.m. and took him to a hospital, Lt. Andy Mathes of the Los Angeles Police Department Northeast Station said.

The robber was with an accomplice, he said, but police had no descriptions of the two suspects.

Police withheld the name of the victim, who Mathes said was in "guarded" condition.

Note: An earlier version of this story based on a report from City News Service identified this incident as taking place near Elysian Park. We regret the error and have brought it to the attention of City News Service.

And people say there is not much crime in this area, yea right. When you have illegal aliens combined with being a degenerate, illiterate gang member you will have crime. There needs to be a sweep done. This is a joke, the LAPD training facility is there with a ton of officers and the gang members are dealing drugs right around the corner from the place! LAPD should be ashamed.

This is the fifth murder in but a few weeks.

You are misidentifying it as "near Elysian Park." That's in Glassell Park, not somewhere you would identify as "near Elysian Park."

lela-mathis: Those are kind of racist comments. There is nothing in this article even hinting that the suspects are illegal immigrants, or even Latinos. There is nothing in the article that even hints it was gang-related. How can you just jump to such an presumption, and in so accusatory a manner of an entire ethic group? And a "sweep?" Of what -- sweep all the Latinos out?!

Also, the article isn't even right. This is not near Elysian Park. It's near Cypress Park and Glassell Park. A couple miles away from Elysian Park...a completely different neighborhood. I live one street away, and this has not ever felt like an unsafe neighborhood in the 4 years that I have lived here. And the illegal immigrants comment is uninformed and unnecessary.

Patch needs to correct the location.....This is nowhere near Elysian Park. Not even Elysian Valley...It's Glassel Park/Cypress Park

EP Patch has shown itself in the past to be geographically challenged for the purpose of tying stories in to the neighborhoods they cover, and intentionally misidentifying the location of this Cypress Park crime as "near Elysian Park" is further proof.

Christine, WIll -- Thanks guys. I was off for the weekend and colleagues from another part of town were sitting in for me and posted the story. I'll make this correction now. It was nice to get a break though, and I appreciate your being on the case. AR

@All-Turns out the original City News Service story ID'ed this as near Elysian Park. We've reached out to them to be sure they update their item too. AR

Cypress Park actually

I'm sure it was not intentional, it was merely sloppy. I'm also certain it is what the police called it, even though Northeast station is just down the street from this location. My experience is that it is very common for police to misidentify neighborhoods. But that is no excuse for the reporter not to check.

Imma have to agree with lela the 1st commenter.. its very unsettling that there has been so many murders in such.a short period of time. One of the victims being a good friend of mine. Ivan P. (Rip) there's also been a lot of robberys and home burgs.latly also.. Why? LAPD IF YOU WOULD.KINDLY RESPOND OR REPLY TO THIS QUESTION!! Thankyou. And a couple of.miles apart from each other is still basiclly the.same.neighborhood doesn't reallly.matter what.park.it happened in the hoods are still very close...
