Planning Commission Denies Appeal of Beer and Wine at Fix

A local resident is said to have already filed an appeal to the state licensing agency.

Marc Galucci, the owner of Fix Coffee, sent us an email just before 9 p.m. Wednesday that read, in part:

The Planning Commission denied Susan Borden's appeal tonight and voted unanimously in our favor and to strongly support FIX COFFEE.   Needless to say I'm very happy that the CUP Approval stands and that we can move forward.    Unfortunately Susan has already filed an official protest with the ABC so we will now likely go to another hearing once that gets made official.

The five-member East Los Angeles Regional Planning Commission heard arguments from both sides Wednesday afternoon before making the decision.

We will also reach out to Borden for comment.

As Galucci notes in his email, the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is the next and final step.

It is the only entity that can grant a beer and wine license.

The Zoning Commission approvals relate to hours of operation and other variances needed to run a restaurant, as opposed to a coffeehouse, serving meals with beer and wine.

A recent poll in Echo Park Patch showed local residents favored beer and wine at Fix by a margin of 3 to 1.

See that poll below.
