4.0 Earthquake Off Coast Felt in EP, Silver Lake

The 4.0 jolt hit at 10:14 p.m. Tuesday. It was centered near one of the Channel Islands, but residents as far away as Echo Park and Silver Lake felt the shimmy.

A 4.0 earthquake centered in the Pacific Ocean about 30 miles southwest of Malibu surprised some near Downtown Los Angeles Tuesday night.

With an epicenter 53 miles from the Civic Center, the moderate quake still got locals talking on Facebook and Twitter.

One Silver Lake resident near the coffeehouse tweeted that she had felt the shaking, dismissing it first as her dog underfoot.

KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez noted it on his Facebook page:

Sorry for the Earthquake that just hit L.A. Once again, me doing push ups tends to make the Earth move. Apologies. As you were.
