Dodger Stadium: Heightened LAPD Presence for Jackie Robinson Day After Boston Bombing

LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck tells the L.A. Times that there will be precautions designed to prevent an incident "similar" to the one at the Boston Marathon Monday afternoon.

Earlier: When the gates at Dodger Stadium open at 4:40 p.m. Monday , there will Los Angeles Police Department officers out in full force.

Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck told the Los Angeles Times that there would be an additional deployment of "bomb-squad personnel, dogs and other precautions."

The news came a little more than an hour after two explosions killed at least two two and injured many others at the Boston Marathon finish line Monday afternoon.

According to the Times, extra police officers had already been scheduled for the game, which commemorates Jackie Robinson's first game in major league  baseball in 1947.

LAPD's Northeast Division has day-to-day responsibility for security at Dodger Stadium.

Robinson's wife and two children will attend, as well as Harrison Ford, who will throw out the first pitch.

Beck also told the Times that the LAPD would be increasing deployment at all scheduled sporting events in the near future.

Dodger officials initiallly had no comment earlier in the afternoon about whether special precautions would be taken, saying it was policy not to comment on security matters.

Dodger Stadium is the starting line for the annual Los Angeles Marathon, held in March of each year.
