Desert Quake Rumbles for Some in Echo Park, Silver Lake

A magnitude-4.7 quake and several aftershocks strike near Palm Springs, with no injuries reported.

A magnitude-4.7 earthquake centered in the Riverside County desert rattled some parts of Los Angeles today.

Some in Echo Park and Silver Lake seemed to notice, but there were no reports of any damage.

The quake struck at 9:55 p.m. and was centered 11 miles south-southeast of Anza and 14 miles southwest of La Quinta, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was initially reported as a magnitude-5.2, but was later downgraded by the USGS.

The shaking was felt across Riverside and San Diego counties and by a few locals including Victoria Jasper, who told us on Facebook it was "loud and spooky."
