Candidates in L.A. Mayor's Race Face Off in First Debate Saturday Night

Four candidates face off Saturday night at 7 p.m. at downtown L.A.'s Japan America Theater.

 

The race for Los Angeles mayor heats up Saturday night with the first official debate.

Co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters, Los Angeles, the California League of Conservation Voters and KABC-7, it brought Eric Garcetti, Wendy Gruel, Kevin James and Jan Perry to the same stage.

It takes place at the Aratani Japan America Theater.

The 700 or so expected to be in the audience have RSVPed through the League's website.

KABC-7 will also broadcast the debate live.

Social media posts from several of the candidates showed up early Saturday afternoon.

Eric Garcetti noted on his Facebook page, "I'm preparing for tonight's Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters (LALCV) debate, the first televised debate in our campaign. It's also the first opportunity for us to address the national tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut."

Meantime, Wendy Gruel noted in a Tweet, "It's crunch time" and urged viewers to tune in.
