The mood was conciliatory, with a focus on initiating efforts to free Ramirez from a San Diego prison, where he is serving out a 10-month term for parole violation.

The documents to intiate that process are expected to be filed within the week.

Gun Found

Lead attorney Anthony Brooklier said they will try to show that the gun found near Ramirez--the cause of his parole violation--was found only through a search related to the Bryan Stow investigation.

Brooklier also repeated what he said earlier Friday on television, that the team would take "the high road" regarding the LAPD investigation that led to Ramirez's arrest.

"Every case stands on its own, " he said. "And I still believe that the LAPD acted in good faith. They just made a mistake."

"I'm not saying they had the probable cause to make the arrest," he continued. "I always thought it was a weak case even before I [took it]."

But Soledad Gonzalez, mother of Giovanni Ramirez, told reporters, "They got an innocent person. They're saying on the news he did it and that's what really hurts."

"Just because he looks like the picture? There's a thousand people that look like the picture," she added.

Mother Lives in Las Vegas

Gonzalez now lives in Las Vegas, but said her son lived with her until he was 18 years old in the area just off Beverly Boulevard.

"They're saying he's dangerous, she added. "They don't even know him."

Ramirez, who attended John Marshall High School, was living with his uncle Eleno Gaitan at 4030 Clinton St. when he was arrested.

Eleano Gatian spoke at the press conference through a translator, saying he was very sad about the arrest.

Gatian is also a source of the alibi for Ramirez the night of March 31.

He said Ramirez was at 4030 Clinton that night for a meal of hotdogs, attended by seven or eight others.

Witnesses Had A Hard Time Finding Ramirez in Line Up

Jose Romero stressed the importance of the line-up in convincing LAPD investigators that their case was weak.

Romero said that during that lineup, only one of seven witnesses identified Ramirez as the assailant in the case.

But they also pointed to the two polygraph test, the 11 alibis and cellphone records they had referred to the LAPD.

Brooklier said that the videotapes that had been sought at the Comfort Inn on Vermont were not a factor.

They were overdubbed by the time they were retrieved.

Ramirez Team Worked Pro Bono

According to several members of the team, the work for Ramirez's case was largely on a pro bono basis.

Brooklier said the money that was received went toward the investigators, who worked at discounted rates.

When asked whether a civil lawsuit against the LAPD would be a possibility, Brooklier told Echo Park Patch "not on my watch," though he said he could not speak for others.
