BIODEGRADABLE ECHO PARK

The new LA Mayor and CD 13 Councilman should make sure that there will be a contractual obligation for vendors at Echo Park Lake to replace Styrofoam and petroleum base plastic by implementing use of biodegradable greenware and organic plastics. We just spend millions in the renovation of the Park; plastic will soon contaminate the soil and the water again. Use of biodegradable dishware should be mandatory at the boathouse  concession as well as in upcoming festival. TELL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES. Keep plastic away from our delicious food and our beautiful park.
It is incredible to me that Alex Padilla SB450 as well as the strong opposition to his proposition are ignoring that for over a decade there are manufactures and small distributors in USA of alternative "organic plastic" bags (Catergreen in Echo Park). Plastic bags derivatives from petroleum should be banned BUT replaced not with mandatory paper bags BUT with biodegradable bags which have the same texture that the ones been debated.
Echo Park is a progressive retro art community of up-ground Los Angeles and we should share the echoes of green magic everywhere.
