UCLA Beats USC 7-2 at Dodger Stadium Tuesday

The crosstown rivalry played out as part of the Dodgertown Classic, which brings college baseball to Chavez Ravine every March. Bruin announcer and Silver Lake resident John Ramey was there.

The No. 9 UCLA baseball team won its 11th consecutive game, defeating crosstown rival USC, 7-2, before 6,034 in a non-conference meeting at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night.

Earlier Tuesday, the Pepperdine Waves defeated the UC Irvine Anteaters 3-2.

UCLA play-by-play announcer John Ramey (and occasional Patch blogger) lives in Silver Lake. He sent us the above photo of his view from the press box just before the game started at 6:30:

Sitting where Vin (Scully) sits and seeing what Vin sees is truly awesome for any broadcaster. And Dodger Stadium is a truly amazing setting. The mid-century modernist architecture has settled perfectly into the surrounding natural landscape. We even remarked on the broadcast that the muted mustard yellow of the bleachers in the outfield pavilions are a pitch-perfect color echo of the golden hills in view beyond the stadium.

The Bruins' home field is Jackie Robinson Stadium in Westwood. The Trojans have Dedeaux Field.

Dodger Stadium puts on yet another hat this weekend, as the starting gate for Sunday's LA Marathon.

Set up at the stadium has already begun, with BIG 5K scheduled for Saturday.

Dodger reps say most activity will be confined to the northeast area of the stadium to minimize neighborhood noise.
