Stevie Wonder Shout Out in Echo Park Goes National

Wonder praised Steve Jobs and Apple for making products accessible to those with disabilities Sept. 10 at the Echoplex.

Now, a bit of what he said that night in making national news, bubbling up from the tech press to the Los Angeles Times and now the Washington Post.

In addition to singing and requesting Michael Jackson’s “Rock with You,” Wonder gave a big shout out to Steve Jobs and Apple for making its “technology accessible to everyone.”

“There’s nothing on the iPhone and iPad that you can do that I can't do,” he added.

“I can be talking to you, you can be looking at me, and I can be doing whatever I need to do and you don't even know what I'm doing.”

Washington Post/Tech Crunch has suggested that Wonder is referring to the iPhone’s VoiceOver function, which lets blind users hear what’s under their fingers.

Some are crediting tech and culture blogger Anil Dash for first spotting the shout out, although Frolab.com and others cited Wonder’s remarks a week ago in stories.
