No 24-Hour Snacking in Silver Lake?

The folks at the influential culture blog "Los Angeles, I'm Yours" bemoan the lack of 24-hour dining options in Silver Lake. Should they?

New signage at the Sunset Junction Coffee Shop sparks a meditation by our favorite culture blog about the lack of 24-hour dining options in Silver Lake.

Here's an excerpt from the posting on the Decemberists-inspired Los Angeles, I'm Yours

Why a place like the 101 Coffee Shop or Swingers isn’t in this notorious storefront is beyond us. It seems so obvious: quality food, later hours, lots of people who will return for that reason. Perhaps there is a zoning code or maybe the desire is not there? Maybe. But, really, have you been to the Sunset and Foutain Del Taco at 2AM? I have on multiple occasions. And it is always packed. And as if all the people there actually *want* to be there!

Even in Echo Park, the notorious Brite Spot shuts down at 3 a.m.

TELL US: How would a place like Swingers do in our 'hood?

And where are you snacking late-night in the absence of one?

If there was a demand, there would be 24/7 food. Perhaps some day.

Um, Astro is disgusting?

Why do we need, nor even want, to have the neighborhood open an rowdy 24/7/365? Nothing's open at 3 a.m.? Well maybe you ought to go home and go to bed -- and stop making noise out there, I'm trying to sleep.

Burls, next door to the vista theatre, used to be a decent 24 hr place. I think the norms on sunset and vermont was open 24 hrs before it was razed and replaced by Kaiser 4700. And the ThriftyDrugs in the barnsdall shopping center was 24 hrs. Even the mayfair, now gelsons, was open 24/7. 24hr open seems to have disappeared when the bathhouses started closing in the 1980s because of aids.
