CD 13 Candidate O'Farrell Tells More About His Campaign in Email

Mitch O'Farrell, a declared candidate for Eric Garcetti's city council seat, reached out to locals recently with some details about his campaign.

On Thursday, Dec. 15, the Atwater News and  the Eastsider LA brought us the news that Glassell Park resident Mitch O’Farrell would be running the Council District 13 seat opening in 2013.

The current holder, Eric Garcetti, is termed out and running for mayor.

The reports relied on city Ethics Commission records, which showed O’Farrell and Silver Lake resident Crawford as declared candidates.

On Friday, O'Farrell sent out this email to some local residents, which fills in some details about his candidacy:

Over the past several years, while working on behalf of city councilmember Eric Garcetti in the 13th District, you have played a role in my development as a public servant. Therefore I want to personally notify you about my decision to run for city council. Arriving at this decision was not easy but it is the right one. In fact, I have never been more sure of anything in my life.

Why? Because I want to continue working for the constituents of the 13th District. After working here for nine-and-a-half years, I feel there is no one more qualified to take this district to the next level. There is so much more to do and everything up to now has prepared me to take this next step.

You know from working with me that a focus on the delivery of services, creating solutions to chronic neighborhood problems, a collaborative, community approach in all public and private projects, and direct personal involvement in matters large and small, has always been my approach and that approach has produced positive results.

As councilmember for the district, I will hire and train a staff of professionals that will help me deliver more for the district than ever before. We will make things happen! I also look forward to sharing my policy goals and plans of action for helping to make city departments, and public agencies more efficient, more responsive, and more accountable to the public.

Although the next 15 months will be busy--primary is March 5, 2013--and most certainly a little crazy at times, I look forward to the adventure, earning the respect of those who don't yet know me, and making my case to the voters in the district. I hope you will be there with me.

In gratitude and in service,
Mitch O'Farrell

O’Farrell tells us that his campaign website is still in process.

The domain name’s been registered. Look for it to be up and running by the end of the month.

He says he also also hopes to hold his first fundraiser at that time.

Many also expect State Senator Kevin DeLeon to enter the race, but he has yet to declare.
