826LA Young Authors Wrap Up Summer Book Project

The writers were feted by a NASA engineer Monday night.

More than 15 young Echo Park authors celebrated their published book, Don’t Forget A Rocket, with a wrap party at 826LA's Echo Park offices Monday night.

It included science experiments, student readings and the making of liquid nitrogen ice cream.

In 862LA’s tradition of making learning fun, and fostering creative community engagement, the student authors got a guest visit from Melissa Soriano, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Mars Rover (Curiosity) engineer.

Time Warner Cable presented the summer workshops and publication party as part of "Connect a Million Minds," the company’s five-year, $100 million initiative to inspire the next generation of problem solvers by connecting young people to the wonders of science, technology, engineering and math.

The book is available at the Echo Park Timetravel Mart (12 p.m. – 6 p.m.) for $5.
