This Weekend In Live Music
Lots of varied music happening around town this weekend. Our picks below.
Friday: East L.A.'s beloved "home team," Los Lobos, return to the Greek theatre this Friday night with Chicano-rocker Texans, Los Lonely Boys. With a career spanning three decades, and multiple Grammy Awards, Los Lobos's Angeleno (and beyond) tales have produced more than eighteen albums and a rabid fan base the world over. The group's 2010 LP, Tin Can Trust, was the their first collection of new material since 2006, earning them a Grammy nomination. Expect to have fun.
Saturday: A cool $15 gets you into for Check Your Ponytail's triple bill of Metronomy / Nite Jewel / Sisu, a night that should have no shortage of varied electronica and ethereal washes of synths.
Sunday: On the indie-rock front, Eastsiders have an opportunity to catch the heavily buzzed-about Portland band Unknown Mortal Orchestra, who will be holding an encore performance at Sunday night follwing their (already sold-out) gig at the Troubadour the night before. UK 90s grunge-revivalists YUCK support, and are sure to be a treat for anyone with more than a couple Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth LPs in their collection.
