LA Weekly: Echo Park, One of 50 Reasons Why L.A. Is Great

The LA Weekly’s big on lists.

Just recently a number of Echo Park businesses made the pub’s Best of LA 2011 issue, including

Now the LA Weekly’s taken it upon itself to represent for Los Angeles, with a piece entitled “50 Reasons Why Los Angeles Is the Best Effing City in America.”

Not everyone’s keen about the Weekly’s use of “Effing” in the headline. But that doesn’t negate the fact that Echo Park (the neighborhood) ranks 20th on the list, between taco trucks (21) and smog (19).

Other local landmarks that seem to get a mention are the Hollyhock and Neutra houses (50), Griffith Park (34) and the tiny Sunset Boulevard bar Tiki Ti (27).

Culture phenoms like “hip street culture” (36) and "moms and dads in Black Flag T-shirts" (45) are also listed.

Number 1 on the list is “weed” followed by L.A. status as “home of the modern surfboard" (2).

It’s good company. Love it, Echo Parquenos.
