Tow Trucks Tear It Up at Lotus Festival

Illegal parkers were punished Saturday afternoon as the festival kicked off the first of two days of music, crafts, food and cultural exchange.

When Echo Park Patch attended the 33rd Lotus Festival in Echo Park, we had the predictable trouble parking,.

Gratefully we found a space on Glendale Boulevard just before the 101 freeway.

On the side of Glendale near the lake, the tow trucks--and the ticketers--were tenacious.

One distraught vendor had returned to see her car long gone.

She said she hadn't wanted to carry her things from the official lot for vendors near Sunset.

So she'd parked next to the unpainted (but, okay, illegal) curb for a bit.

"The curb wasn't red," she said,  "And the signage is very confusing."

The traffic enforcement officer was having no mercy. He told us that the same thing happens every year at the Festival.

All the more reason to walk into the park if you're local and plan to come.
