Poll: Hipster Heaven-Will It Be Silver Lake or Atwater?

The two communities are facing off in the finals of this year's "Curbed Cup" for L.A.'s best neighborhood. As of early Sunday, Atwater leads with 52.2 percent of the votes.

It's an annual event, with a bracket as complicated as the NCAA Championships.

Notorious neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles face off in reader polls hosted by Curbed LA, the wonderful Web site specializing in real estate and development.

Silver Lake (and Echo Park) are often contenders and this year's preliminary rounds have brought it down to this:  Silver Lake and Atwater Village.

The voting's open and continues until Jan. 2, 2013. As of Sunday, Dec. 30, Atwater was leading by a slim 52.2 percent margin.

Interesting to read "Silverlake (and Echo Park)" as if they were the same community. Next door neighbors, yes, but Echo Park still remains home to a huge Mexican and Salvadorean community that gives it a style all its own. While both great, they are decidedly different.

@Cheryl -- Good point though I think many discount the significant impact that Silver Lake's Latino population has on the vibe here too especially in our shared 90026 zip code area.

Hi Cheryl, Thanks for sharing what you value about Echo Park. Anthea does a great job of reporting for both Silver Lake and Echo Park. TheEastsiderLA.com covers even more neighboring communities while EchoParkOnline.com and SilverLakeStar.com, for example, are more specialized. Within these locations, there are varied cultures and traditions. I hope you'll keep sharing your style on our local websites/blogs.

Echo Park is amazing and the nightlife is all in Echo Park. Silverlake is great for breakfast and Lunch. Just sayin....

I'm not sure I agree about the nightlife....

Silverlake and Echo Park have, hands down, the best veg and veg option restaurants- Flore, Sage, Bulan, Mohawk Bend, etc...
