Lost Dog? Or Is He?

A pit bull showed up late Thursday/early Friday on Elysian Park Drive and Montana Street, near Memorial Grove, and he's staying put.

Reader Beth Schacter sent us the following email, about the beautiful dog in the accompanying picture:

This dog, a male intact pit bull showed up late Thursday/early Friday on Elysian Park Drive and Montana Street, near Memorial Grove.

We've been trying to grab him but he's hurt, scared and in no mood for leashes. So we've been keeping him fed and watered and he's been content to sleep under the shady bushes on Elysian Park Drive off Douglas. We've heard that he lives nearby, that his owner is out of town and that the neighbor who was watching him lost him then came by and looked for him on Friday but we haven't seen anyone and the dog is still here.

We've put fliers around the neighborhood, called everyone we know who works with dogs, connected with EPAA. I think we need more eyes on this guy to find his owner. And [Los Angeles Animal Services] is understaffed and told us that with one officer for the whole city we were unlikely to get any help from them.

If you recognize him please let his owners know he is safe but scared and has an injured paw and needs to go home.
