Have You Recycled Your Christmas Tree Yet?

Officials say get rid of them early before they become hazards--for fire and for wind damage.

Christmas trees brought joy to famlilies and friends again this holiday season.

But now they sit, on curbs and in trash cans waiting for sanitation crews.

Fire is always a risk if you delay getting rid of a holiday tree past its prime.

So is danger to property and person in our recent windy conditions, as you can see from the photo above.

An errant tree swept up by gusts caused a roadblock Thursday night on Maltman Avenue in Silver Lake.

It was just one of several spotted journeying around the 'hood.

Editor's Note: The Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation has a Christmas Tree recycling program under which trees too big to chop and fit into a green waste bin can be placed next to the bin on the curbside on collection day.
