Echo Park Dog Park? Not Yet

A fabric sign attached to the fence of a lot on Echo Park Avenue across from Echo Park Lake late last week seemed to suggest a bright future for local dog owners. It said a dog park was coming soon there, "transforming underutilized land into space for the community."

The sign for the "Echo Park Dog Park" also included the name "Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles," which, according to the Eastsider, owns the land. Was it true?

The Eastsider followed up a with a diocese spokesman who said, no, it was another hoax. Meantime, dogs will have to be on leash in the park when it opens June 15.

Jen Byrne, an advocate for the Silver Lake Dog Park, said she could think of at least one other place around the area that might host a dog park, pointing to an area just east of Dodger Stadium in Elysian Park.

"It could be a great Runyon Canyon East," she said in an email. "Apparently only homeless camps are there now."
