PHOTOS: Art Snyder, Former Councilman, Laid to Rest

Hundreds bid a final farewell to one of L.A.'s most memorable politicians.

A host of people from the business and political communities, along with common constituents, paid a final farewell to former Los Angeles City Council member Art Snyder as he was laid to rest at the Forest Lawn cemetery in Hollywood Hills Wednesday.

Snyder, who represented Council District 14 from 1967 through 1985, died in his sleep Nov. 7 at his home in Huntington Beach. He was 79—just three days short of his 80th birthday.

The memorial services and graveside service for Snyder was conducted by Rev. Rick Mandl from the Eagle Rock Baptist Church on Colorado Boulevard. Among those attending were the former councilman's staffers as well Eagle Rock community leaders.

Former Councilman Richard Alatorre, who succeeded Snyder, was in attendance with his wife Angie. Both are longtime Eagle Rock residents. During the memorial, business supporters and family members offered their eulogies of Snyder.

A U.S. Marine honor guard gave a 21-gun salute and played taps in honor of the late community leader, who was a Marine captain. Snyder's wife Delia was presented an American flag by a Marine dressed in blue—"on behalf of a grateful nation." The flag eventually draped the casket that carried Snyder.

Employees from Don the Beachcomber, the Huntington Beach restaurant that Snyder owned, traveled for the funeral in a chartered bus.

Snyder represented parts of Los Feliz as a Los Angeles City Councilmember.
