Echo Park Lake to Open June 15

A bevy of politicians and hand-picked locals tour the project site after Eric Garcetti announces the news.

Echo Park Lake will reopen on June 15.

Los Angeles Council Districtmember Eric Garcetti made the announcement Friday morning, flanked by a number of local leaders including fellow councilmembers Jan Perry and Ed Reyes, state senator Kevin DeLeon and Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez.

Representatives from the city's Bureau of Engineering, Department of Public Works and the Department of Recreation and Parks were also on hand, along with key community members including restauranteur Mike Taix and long-time activist Isa Kae-Meksin.

Kevin Regan, assistant General Manager of the city's Department of Recreation and Parks told Echo Park-Silver Lake Patch that an official ribbon-cutting and dedication is likely to come on the 15th as well.

Noticably absent from the proceedings were the two candidates in the Council District 13 race, Mitch O'Farrell and John Choi.

Garcetti told us that they had both asked to attend, but had been told they could not come with the aim to keep things nonpartisan.

Garcetti again parried our question about whether he'd have an endorsement coming in that tight race for his CD 13 seat. He said he was "staying focused on his own race," though there was always "hope."
