Helicopter Rescues Injured Hiker in Griffith Park

The man was rescued just a mile and a half from where another hiker was found dead on Wednesday.

A fire department helicopter crew rescued a hiker from a steep embankment in Griffith Park.

Firefighters sent to the 2700 block of North Vermont Avenue at 8:46 a.m. hoisted the man to safety, said Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The area is east of the Greek Theatre.

The man suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital, Main said.

The rescue took place about a mile and a half from where a man was found dead on Wednesday. Hikers spotted the man down a hillside near the 4700 block of Crystal Springs Drive, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. Firefighters removed the body from the rugged area.

Authorities withheld the name of the man, who was in his 40s, pending notification of his relatives, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter. The case was reported as a possible accident, and an autopsy was pending, Winter said
