Downtown Los Angeles Walmart to Open Mid August.

The superstore is set to serve the Echo Park and Silver Lake communities.

The downtown Walmart Neighborhood Market is scheduled to open in mid August.

Despite neighborhood protests against the store, a City Council attempt to block it and neighborhood groups tried to sue to for additional time for public comment on the plans of the store, the store will open as a grocery store with a full-service pharmacy. 

While resident groups have tried to block the store, a press release said Walmarts permits have been upheld by the Department of Building and Safety, the Planning Department’s Zoning Administrator and the Central Area Planning Commission.

The market will be located in the Grand Plaza building at 701 W. Cesar E. Chavez Avenue.
