Update: Aide at Westlake School Charged With Lewd Act Worked at Second Local School

LAUSD officials have confirmed the man worked at both Gratts Learning Academy for Young Scholars on Lucas Avenue and the Los Angeles Academy of Arts & Enterprises.

LAPD Rampart officers were among those who arrested Jorge Dominguez at his home Thursday morning. Dominguez, 25, was arrested and subsequently booked for one lewd act on a child. His bail was set at $100,000. Dominguez most recently served as a part-time teacher's aide at the Gratts Elementary School, sometimes also known as the Gratts Learning Academy for Young Scholars. According to an LAPD release, Dominguez also coached after-school sports at Gratts, and, according to the Los Angeles Times, at a second school, the Los Angeles Academy of Arts & Enterprises, in a Youth Policy Institute funded program. The Los Angeles Academy is a charter school, authorized, but not managed by LAUSD. Gratts is located on Lucas Street just below Third in …

Poll: Anti-Stadium Violence Measure Passes Assembly

Authored by Silver Lake and Los Feliz Assembly rep Mike Gatto, the bill would require California major league teams to post contact numbers for stadium security.

Assembly Bill 2464, the Improving Personal Safety at Stadiums Act, passed the Assembly, Thursday, by a unanimous 71-0 vote. Authored by local Assembly representative Mike Gatto, the bill was inspired by increased fan violence at pro stadiums, including the Brian Stow beating last March at Dodger Stadium. The bill requires major league stadiums in California to post numbers for calls or texts to contact stadium security about fan violence. The signs must be visible from the stands and in parking lots.  In a press release Gatto says it is security--not police--who is best poised to put down violent incidents, since security is inside the stadium. Like the beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow, the incidents often occur over several minutes and, …

Another good intention and another law that will not do anything. Enforce the laws already on the books. Increased security is the only way to stop violence, and even that does not always work.   more ›

Silver Lake's Pop Physique Sculpts the Creative Class

Mom Jennifer Williams turned her career as a dancer and Pilates instructor into a unique workout that's one of the fitness industry's hottest properties. And it all started in a little studio on Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake.

Silver Lake resident Jennifer Williams is very busy these days. She's raising three kids in the neighborhood and overseeing a franchise that is booming, Pop Physique. The chain offers more than 45 classes a week at its Silver Lake studio alone. But Williams still finds the time every Thursday morning to teach a class at the very first location of the chain she founded in 2008. Pop Physique blends techniques from dance, Pilates and weight training in an efficient one-hour workout set to inspiring music. It's popular with the ladies, but their men are also encouraged to attend. That's not really surprising, since Jennifer's husband Deric--a marketing expert--is also deeply involved with Pop Physique. Jennifer took some time out of her busy …

Cinco de Mayo Street Game Will Educate About the City

The Journey to the End of the NIght will bring contestants of all ages through city streets in a kind of treasure hunt tag game. The route is secret but it will begin at the Rio de Los Angeles State Park at 6:30 p.m on May 5.

Those willing will have a chance to experience Cinco de Mayo from L.A. Streets. The fifth annual "Journey to the End of the Night" will engage locals in what organizers call a "pursuit across the city in multiple parts." No cars, bikes or skateboards can be used. It's just you and your feet and maybe some public transit. "This is an intense game, capable of changing your perspective on an entire city," according to organizers. The goal is to "check in" at a variety of locations without being tagged "out." Chasers aren't easy to spot, so you'll have to be on your toes. The race begins at 6:30 p.m. at Rio De Los Angeles State Park in Glassell Park on May 5. For more information, see http://StreetGameLA.com

Dodger Stadium: Parking to Drop from $15 to $10

Is the drop big enough to keep parkers and partiers off Echo Park streets? Tell us in comments.

Magic Johnson gave the good news Wednesday morning at a press conference at Dodger Stadium center field. Parking prices will go from $15 to $10 at Dodger Stadium lots. Many have been calling for this change for a while, hoping it will keep partiers and parkers off nearby streets. Guggenheim Partners made their ownership official Tuesday, with Stan Kasten as team president and CEO. Johnson wil be the PR man in the mix, and seems like he's off to a good start. Wonder what Frank McCourt--who retains an ownership interest in the Dodger Stadium parking lots--thinks of all of this. Related: Daily News The Eastsider LA

Still No Trial Date for Bryan Stow Lawsuit Against Dodgers

A judge is concerned that even though Dodger ownership has changed hands, bankruptcy proceedings still encumber some assets.

The judge overseeing Bryan Stow's lawsuit against the Dodgers refused to set a trial date Wednesday. He's worried about encumbrances that remain on four Dodger properties. That's even though the Dodger ownership has technically changed hands. According to City News Service, attorneys on both sides of the case aren't worried. They see the delay as a formality and agreed that they would return to court on June 29 to set the date. An extended period of "discovery" is expected in the case, including interviews with a variety of witnesses. According to CNS: The suit was filed on behalf of Stow and his children, Tyler and Tabitha, against former Dodger owner Frank McCourt and the team entities last May 24. Among the claims are assault, battery, …
