I first met Art Synder, over 25 years ago when the neighborhood was creating the non-profitRead More “Los Angeles River Artists and Business Association” (LARABA) to address important resident and property owner issues such as homelessness, graffiti, work/live Los Angeles City codes, street maintenance among them. At one the meetings, Art Snyder brought up the issue of “in fill lighting” for the dark industrial area east of Alameda and west of the Los Angeles River. As Councilman, Art Snyder, learned that his low-income constituents were supposed to have so many street lights per mile. A survey was done, lights installed and crime immediately went down. A similar survey was done in what is now the Arts [sic] District and the street lights installed. A lesson Well learned by everyone that participated about the empowerment of just knowing the law and connections. Art Synder also rebuilt Lincoln Park, created Heritage Square, the Latino Monument at Mission and Valley Blvd among other accomplishments. He was loved by his constituents and he was a good man. RIP

Art Snyder also reach out to our Mexico border neighbors, I have pictures of him with VIPs fromRead More Mexico in a meeting to discuss commerce exports and imports. A good friend of his and about the same age, Alberto Limon Padilla born in Boyle Heights move to Mexico with his parents and become a very successful business man bringing export and import from China, Japan, Korea to Baja California and served as President of Commerce in Baja California Mexico. He was also a Republican and like Snyders for his work in Boyle Heights and Lincoln Heights, and caring for the people.

Anthea, did he comment at all on land use and development? Did he explain his position on currentRead More land use controversies like sober living houses, the Walgreen's on Vine, and the SM/Virginia development? The Chief Technology Officer - how would that work? Where is he going to get salary for that in the budget, and how much more efficient would that make things? CFMS is decent. It would be good to have video rather than just audio for committee meetings. Fire also needs to provide audio of Board of Commissioners meetings in a more timely fashion, but a lot of info is available electronically if one knows how to use it and is persistent. The issue is getting comment from city staff. CAO and Mayor's office are, frankly, the worst. Indifference to media inquiry seems cultural - and it's a culture he's been part of for years. Now he says he's going to "change" things. Where are the specifics?

@Julie- Great points. Let's talk back channel about efficient ways of digging into some of thisRead More stuff. Garcetti took no questions at this event and the ones you ask (also in your comments on my KIA article) are good ones and deserve attention. I want to address them. Appreciate the work you are doing for Patch and your critical eye here is part of that. AR

Eric Garcetti is the Mitt Romney of the Mayor's race. He must be defeated. He will tell youRead More anything he thinks you want to hear. He is extremely adverse to conflict and possesses extreme needs to be loved by everyone. He needs a shrink before he needs another term in office.

Downtown's Grand Performances presented David "conversation" with Alan Warner at theRead More California Plaza a few summers ago. Glad I got a chance to see this and to hear David explain he had no reason to write a song about San Jose. He "just wanted to."
