Echo Park Gallery Hosts Pen & Ink Extravaganza

The gallery's got another smash on its hands--two shows inspired by another old-school technology: ballpoint pen drawings on notebook paper.

Starting Friday, Jim Rugg, indie comics darling, takes over iam8bit's front gallery to show his drawings.

Sketchbook Project 2012 will open up its library Friday and Saturday in iam8bit's Warehouse Gallery.

The Sketchbook 2012 project is a touring library of artists sketchbooks.

According to LAist:Participants in the Sketchbook Project sign up online to receive a blank book. They fill it in with their artwork and mail it back. The end result is a collaborative catalog that includes thousands of handmade books by more than 7,500 artists from more than 100 countries. The books are also permanently saved in the Brooklyn Art Library and displayed in its digital library.

The opening for both shows is Friday, May 25 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
