Patch Blog: Ukulady Meets the Blacksmith!

The Ukulady meets an Echo Park Blacksmith, considers the Lotus Blossoms and Loves Taco Zone Taco Truck!

Dear Blob,

Besides taco trucks, what I love about LA and in particular, Echo Park, are the surprising people and places I find behind what appears to be just a dirty wall.

Across from the street a storage facility, which used to be early LA film studios, on Glendale Blvd, behind a dirty wall and a seemingly-abandonded pet-hospital, is where I met Christian the Blacksmith at La Forgerie.

The front door on Glendale Blvd, has a sign saying Entrance in the Back, so I flipflapped around the corner and came upon Blacksmithing Central!  Who knew?  Giant warehouses of gorgeous handfashioned iron & steel blacksmithing meep & sweaty, grubxy (grubby-sexy) humans; exactly who you'd expect to find creating giant functional-art-pieces for Burning Man or Edward Scissorhands.

Christian the Blacksmith and The Ukulady are discussing show 'n' event collaboration: the Ukulady plays while the Blacksmith smiths... Stay tuned and contact Christian The Blacksmith for all your custom Blacksmithing needs (gates, fences, jewelery, chain-mail, car-parts...).

In other news, there's a new giant green fence around Echo Park Lake, blocking the lake-view from Glendale Blvd Drivers and disinviting entry and exit from anywhere but designated thruways.  Is this a city-decision?  Is there a film shoot or are they refurbishing the lake to bring back the Lotus blossoms?

Up until about 3 years ago, Echo Park Lake contained the largest collection of lotus flowers outside of China.  Apparently, their roots and seedlets were smothered a few years ago from excessive rains washing garbage, sludge & waste into the lotus bed.  The first year the Lotus didn't bloom was a sad year for the Lotus Festival.

On a happy meep, I was recently standing on Sunset & Park Streets, across from the Brite Spot, wearing my signature orange fur coat, when my favorite Taco Truck, Taco Zone, located in front of the Vons on Alvarado, drove past, beeped and waved!  I felt popular in my old neighborhood!
