'Echo Park Rising' Festival Returns

The music and local business showcase returns August 25 to the streets of Echo Park.

 

Last year's last-minute prompted an .

"Echo Park Rising" was a particularly ambitious pop up, with two days of performances at places like , , and the Echoplex.

Many restaurants and stores offered specials too.

The widespread participation had many asking whether Echo Park would organize a more formal street festival to compete with the deposed mega-event.

Enter Echo Park Rising 2012.

"This is a free event," said Liz Garo of Spaceland Productions, the lead producer. "No fences."

That already makes it a little different than last year, when you paid to see a number of the waylaid acts, like the Butthole Surfers and Charles Bradley.

Promotional materials call the event "a living gallery" that will bring visitors to food, bar, retail and cultural spots like and the .

, Area 1, the Echo, Origami, Stories, Taix Lounge, and will all host live music.

There will also be an outdoor stage at Taix and DJs at .

"Taking our model from the SXSW phenomenon in Austin, TX," the materials continue, 'the potential for growth is unlimited."

Garo says confirmed artists include: Dante vs Zombies, Gothic Tropic, Hands, NO, Tommie Santee Klaws, Hott MT, Black Apples, Raw Geronimo, Son Ark and lots more.

Other businesses signed up include , , , , , , El Prado, , ,  and Mohawk Bend.
