Car Break-Ins: Surveillance Video Yields Possible Suspect

There were 33 documented car burglaries in NELA between July 8 and July 14, many of them in Echo Park and Silver Lake.

Car burglaries and auto theft have troubled our area for a while.

With its busy nightlife and proximity to major freeways, the area is an easy target.

Residents aggravate the situation by leaving tempting personal property in cars.

During the week of July 8 to July 14, the LAPD's Northeast Division documented 33 car burglaries alone, Senior Lead Officer Al Polehonki told us in an email.

But, Polehonki also shared some good news: surveillance video has helped police identify a possible suspect, who may also be involved in some car thefts.

"Time will tell,"" Polehonki said.

He encouraged locals to lock their cars and take valuables with them.
