Update: New Pumphouse at Echo Park Lake

The new building at the southeast corner of Echo Park Lake will house machinery to recirculate water and keep it fresh.

The office of the Echo Park Lake Rehabilitation Project confirmed Monday morning: the concrete structure at the southeast corner of Echo Park Lake is a pumphouse.

According to Olga Morales, it will house equipment to recirculate water in the lake and prevent sludginess and algae.

Morales said the Lake did not have such a device before. And, from the looks of things, it looks to be solar powered, at least in part.

Morales confirmed that the Lake Rehabilitation won't be completed until Spring 2013. Meantime, she said, work continues to remove sludge from the lake bottom.

It also looks like at least a third of the concrete wall that will rim the lakebed remains to be completed.

Could the new pumphouse signal that the Lake may be filled again soon?
