Whole Foods Supports L.A. River

Stores in Glendale and Pasadena are among those donating 5 percent of all proceeds Wednesday to the nonprofit Friends of the Los Angeles River.

Friends of the Los Angeles River (FOLAR) is the granddaddy of all groups behind the waterway's now burgeoning revitalization.

Founder Lewis MacAdams is legend for his 1980s "Friends of the L.A. River" performance piece staged illegally in the riverbed.

Today, MacAdams is an activist and regularly appears before the city council and in Washington to lobby for resources and other improvements on the river.

And FOLAR is going strong, with its annual L.A. River CleanUp just around the corner on May 18.
