MLB Will Run the Dodgers, Local Reaction Mixed

The news came Wednesday afternoon that Major League Baseball would takeover the team after financial improprieties. Owner Frank McCourt claimed not to understand the decision.

The Dodger game was on Wednesday night at , just hours after Major League Baseball announced it would take over the team.

Regulars were there, drinking, eating and talking about the decision.

"I was shocked and appalled, but not surprised," said Matthew Richmond, a long-time Echo Park resident.

"The McCourts had it coming," he added.

Another patron, Darell Mead, who lives on Marview Avenue, overlooking the stadium, was hopeful that the takeover may finally bring change to the streets outside the stadium.

"The issue has been parking fees, " said Mead. "I've been in Elysian Park and it's full of people parking and partying. They've even been on our street."

Meantime, the bartenders at Taix could not be convinced to comment on the subject. The Dodgers are big business in this little Echo Park Patch.

Late Wednesday the Dodgers released this statement from owner Frank McCourt about the supposed financial improprieties that led to the takeover:

"Major League Baseball sets strict financial guidelines which all 30 teams must follow.  The Dodgers are in compliance with these guidelines.  On this basis, it is hard to understand the Commissioner's action today."
