This Sabado Is Gigante in Echo Park

Happy Saturday everyone. Echo Park’s sharing in the coastal thermal inversion for a reason I can’t quite understand.

But that’s no reason not to head out side and enjoy the great events going on. Here are four of note:

1.       The 68th Annual Griffith Park Lion’s Pancake breakfast continues through 11 a.m. at 3250 Glendale Blvd. in Atwater. This is perhaps the biggest and best pancake breakfast known to man and is always worth a visit. The Lions need your support too so they can keep giving out free eyeglasses.

 2.      hosts the Echo Park Stories &  Enchiladas Fundraiser  from 4 p.m. to 8 pm. at the school at 1562 Baxter St.  Admission is free, and for $5 you can get a heft enchilada plate and hear people like Chicken Corner’s Jenny Burman tell their Echo Park stories.

 3.     The pocket park at Rockwood and Colton streets in Historic Filipinotown still isn’t officially named.  But that won’t stop Saturday’s dedication at noon.  LA City Council president will join community members to launch the park, which features new landscaping, a children’s play area and solar-powered lights.

 4.     Highland Park’s Outpost for Contemporary Art says good-bye to Executive Director from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Silent Auction preview fundraiser at Richard Neutra’s VDL House at 2300 Silver Lake Blvd. The Outpost has brought some amazing artists to Los Angeles to collaborate and is worth learning more about.
