U.S. Interior Secretary: Latino History Underrepresented in Public Landmarks, Parks

U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has outlined a plan to raise awareness of Latino history and culture in public places.

At a breakfast organized by the Christian Science Monitor Wednesday, U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar pointed out that less than 3 percent of government historic landmarks are designated for women, Latinos, African Americans and other minorities.

He said his administration want to reverse that trend and is working on several initiatives, including a Latino-heritage forum next week with President Obama.

He also pointed to the recent landmarking of the Cesar Chavez compound in Tehachapi where the United Farm Workers was founded.
