Two Trees Tumble in Latest Siege on Allesandro Street Site

The developer of a three-acre parcel near Allesandro and El Moran streets in Echo park has now struck twice at the site, despite city orders to hold off on tree removal.

Workers returned to the site of an Echo Park housing development to again cut down several trees.

They were stopped by angry neighbors, as well as police and local officials from Council District 13 office.

This is the second time in a month that police have had to stop tree removal on the three-acre parcel on Allesandro Street where developer Planet Home Living plans to build 15 homes.

According to activist and Echo Park Parade organizer Cindy Ortiz in a comment on the EastsiderLA "one of the developer's biologists stated that he gave the order to cut the trees" but later backed off.

Ortiz says the Los Angeles Police Department sent 3 squad cars to the site, and that Alejandra Marroquin, Marcel Porras and Arsen Melikyan of CD 13 arrived as well..

She also says the Los Angeles Building and Safety Department posted another Order to Comply with a Department of Public Works order to stop cutting the trees.

The EastsiderLA quotes Council District 13's Julie Wong as sayiing “Workers stopped working because they could not produce removal permit."

The city has ordered the tree cutting to stop while it looks over the developer's removal permits and the impact any removal might have on wildlife.
