First Free Movie at Polka Dot Plaza Tonight

The new event will feature outdoor screenings of favorite feature films paired with a short by a local filmmaker. "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" kicks things off July 11.

Here's the announcement from artistic director Nicholas Robbins.

I’d like to formally introduce The Silver Lake Picture Show!  Brought to you by the Silver Lake Picture Show staff in collaboration with LA City Councilman Garcetti’s office and the Silver Lake Improvement Association.

This summer we are going to celebrate both classic and contemporary cinema with a series of free, bi-monthly outdoor screenings hosted in Silver Lake's new Sunset Triangle Plaza.

Every other Wednesday evening we will screen a feature film.  Each feature film will be introduced by a short from a local filmmaker.

Our full lineup of films will be released with the launch of our website at the end of this week.  In the meantime, more information can be found on our Facebook page:

https://www.facebook.com/SilverLakePictureShow

Everybody is invited!  We encourage attendees to bring lawn chairs and picnics!

Our program is designed to welcome as many viewers as possible, however, we encourage attendees to view our program list before attending.  They may find that some of our evenings are more fit for families with children than others.  Parental guidance is suggested for all minors for every Silver Lake Picture Show.

Our first season’s theme is ‘feature films that take place in Los Angeles.’  It all begins:

At Sundown on Wednesday, July 11th with ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’

Communities will be introduced to the filmmakers who live next door. Filmmakers will be given opportunities to share their work with a large audience on the big screen.

Local businesses will benefit from a fresh boost to Wednesday evening traffic as the event will draw bicyclists and pedestrians from Silver Lake and the Eastside neighborhoods.

Local businesses who sponsor the Silver Lake Picture Show via our IndieGoGo account will be promoted at our events.  Businesses that donate $50 to our event will be given a space in our printed program. Businesses that donate $100 or more will have their business name projected on our movie screen.

Donations can be made to our IndieGoGo account:

And any business should contact the SLPS @ silverlakepictureshow@gmail.com to coordinate the promotion of their business.

Please spread this around to your contacts and help us fund and promote our community event.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Nicholas Robbins
