'Rowena Road Diet' to Be Discussed Wednesday at Community Meeting

A Silver Lake Neighborhood Council committee will host the 6:30 p.m. meeting. Issues along Rowena Avenue will be a big focus.

You’ve heard about traffic calming, which can manifest itself as those tiny, bumpy roundabouts that show up in Santa Monica.

Well, after today you may have also heard about traffic “slimming”—or as planners call it, a “road diet.”

Pundits like LAist and TheEastsiderLA have already commented on the plan the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council has to narrow the width of Rowena Avenue between Glendale Boulevard and Hyperion Avenue.

The goal’s to slow the flow of traffic through that much-traveled stretch, ending traffic jams and adding more space for bikes and pedestrians.

That's got some who have creeped their way toward the light on Hyperion at rush hour a little nervous.

The Neighborhood Council’s Urban Design & Preservation Advisory Committee will hear about the Rowena Road Diet Wednesday at a community meeting Wednesday.

They will also get an update on the  project planned for the former site of the Coffee Table, also on that stretch of Rowena.

According to a flyer for the event, “the new property owner/developer FIFTEEN GROUP will present their new proposed project replacing 64 condominium development at 2916-2930 Rowena Ave., approved by the Department of City Planning in 2006.”

The meeting takes place at the Silverlake Community Church at 2930 Hyperion Ave. starting at 6:30 p.m.
