PHOTO: Stuff Happens ... When You Least Expect It

A local shopper jumps into our shot. Was he making a statement?

We stopped to take a picture of this Los Feliz billboard for City Controller and mayoral candidate Wendy Greuel, when a local shopper jumped into the shot.

He had just emerged from Crossroads Trading at 4430 Sunset Blvd. Was he simply showing off his new purchase? Was he making a statement of some kind?

We photographed Greuel's billboard, at the northeast corner of Sunset Boulevard and Hillhurst Avenue, because it sits in the center of, arguably, enemy turf.

Los Angeles City Council District 13, which stretches from Echo Park to Hollywood, is represented by one of Greuel's main opponents in the mayoral race: Councilman Eric Garcetti.

Garcetti, of course, lives in the district, in Silver Lake. Greuel resides in Studio City, just a short ways up the 101 Freeway.

Garcetti, Greuel and six other candidates are on the ballot for the March 5 primary. If no candidate wins a majority, the top two vote-getters will face off in the May 21 election.
