Governor Signs Bill by Assemblymember Gomez To Fight Domestic Violence

The bill gives law enforcement throughout California the ability to eliminate the time delay when inputing emergency protective orders for people who have been victims of domestic violence.

Assembly Bill 238, a law to ensure that all Emergency Protective Orders (EPO's) be entered into the California Restraining and Protection Order System (CARPOS) electronically and without delay.

Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez (D-Northeast Los Angeles), whose district includes Echo Park and Silver Lake, helped author the bill and it was signed into law by Governor Brown on Monday.

“Thank you to Governor Brown for signing AB 238 into law,” said Gomez in a press release.  “Women, children and men are affected by domestic violence every day in our communities. Having Emergency Protective Orders in the State’s Restraining and Protection Order System will give law enforcement the ability to act more quickly and prevent domestic violence.”
