City to Start Second Round of Street Repairs

After visiting every neighborhood in Los Angeles and filling about 15,400 potholes and repairing broken sidewalks during the last six months, city street repair crews are ready to do it all over again, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced today.

Garcetti began sending street repair trucks to all 99 of Los Angeles' neighborhood council districts last July as part of his "Operation Neighborhood Blitz" initiative, promising Angelenos that city crews will hit each neighborhood twice during the next year.

In the first round, Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services completed repairs at about 500 locations after consulting with "honorary inspectors" — residents tasked with identifying potholes, sidewalks and curbs in need of fixing.

Declaring the first blitz tour a success, Garcetti said he concluded that "nobody knows better what's going on in their neighborhoods than the people who live there" and that "by working hand in hand with the people of L.A., City Hall can work faster and better."

The second round started today with a truck stopping in Granada Hills North, and is expected to continue in Porter Ranch, Chatsworth, Northridge, North Hills, Mission Hills and Panorama City during the next two weeks.
