Candidates' Forum for New 51st Assembly District Sunday

It will take place in Highland Park. Candidate Luis Lopez will be in Echo Park later Sunday for a meet-and-greet.

Candidates for the newly formed 51st district, which includes Echo Park, will introduce themselves at a forum Sunday morning.

It will take place at El Arco Iris Restaurant at 5683 York Blvd. in Highland Park from 11 a.m to 1 p.m.

Confirmed to participate is Arturo Chavez, Los Angeles-area chief of staff for long-time 45th Assembly district representative Gil Cedillo, and a familiar face to residents of Echo Park.

So is Luis Lopez, who will also be in Echo Park at 2 p.m. for a meeting and greet at 1644 Curran St. in Echo Park at 2 p.m.

Lopez has been endorsed by Echo Park resident and former Assembly member Jackie Goldberg, among others.

Jimmy Gomez and Oscar Gutierrez are also running in the newly-created district, which includes Lincoln Heights, Highland Park and Glassell Park.

Elections for all 80 California Assembly seats will take place on Nov. 6, 2012.
