Video: Theft from Cars Still A Problem in Silver Lake

Northeast Captain William Murphy took to YouTube to break down local crime stats for the week of April 22 through April 28, with some disturbing news for Silver Lake car owners.

LAPD Northeast Captain William Murphy sat down for a webcast on Wednesday to address crime trends across the district, including the still very high number of property crimes involving motor vehicles.

Murphy said that 24 burglary thefts from motor vehicles occurred during the last full week in April. The number was slightly below the division goal of 26.5

"The only pattern we have is a slight pattern in Silver Lake," he noted. "But it's a location pattern and not a time pattern so it's not likely that the same criminal is doing it."

Areas near the 5 and 101 freeways on residential streets are consistently locations for this activity.

Murphy also noted that division-wide crime overall was up about 7 percent with Grand Theft Auto (stolen cars) still a problem too despite extra patrols.
