VIDEO: Motorcyclist Hit on Sunset on Thursday in Downtown Echo Park

The young man was heading east on Sunset Boulevard when he was hit by an auto turning left on to Logan Street.

Traffic stopped, and a crowd gathered around a motorcyclist struck on Sunset Boulevard in downtown Echo Park around 4 p.m. Thursday.

Several bystanders described the victim as a Latino male in  his late 20s or early 30s. Police said he was riding west on  Sunset when he was hit by an auto making a left turn on to Logan Street from Sunset Boulevard. The car was, apparently, going east.

The man was transported to the L.A. County Hospital with critical injuries, but, acccording to Lt. Mike Marcey at LAPD's Traffic Division, "he's not in any danger of dying."

Bianca Carboni heard the crash while working at the nearby Santa Fe Tortilleria on Logan Street. She and her father ran out to see a young man lying on Sunset, his motorcycle splayed next to him.  Carboni said a car had also bumped into the wall in front of .

Carboni said she squatted down next to the man who was going in and out of consciousness, while her father and others tried to call an ambulance.

Clearly upset, she told Echo Park Patch, "he was bleeding from the side of his body, and he was coughing up blood."

Carboni also said the car appeared to have rolled across the intersection, striking the wall around the Walgreen's parking lot after striking the young man, who called himself "Alfred."

Carboni's father, Carlos, worked to slow and redirect traffic on Sunset, while paramedics responded.

Soon after,  in a separate incident, an SUV struck a woman and her young child in a stroller on Fletcher Drive in Glassell Park. They were hospitalized in serious condition.  They were walking down Fletcher near Estara Avenue when they were struck.
