No other information is available about the identity of the man or the motive for the killing, but the victim had been described as "not gang affiliated."

According to Lt. Michael Mabie of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Division, the young man was shot from behind as he was running west on Sunset Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. He collapsed at the corner of Logan Street and Sunset Boulevard.

Mabie called the shooting a "through and through"--the bullet entered the man's back and left through the front of his body.

Police interviewed several witnesses on the scene, which shut down Sunset Boulevard for a while as police and fire gathered.

The shooting startled club and restaurant goers out for the evening.

They looked on over police lines as squad cars and other emergency vehicles flooded the area, according to South Pasadena Patch editor Kristin Lepore, who was in the area and took the accompanying photos Saturday morning.
